There are agencies that do that, you might want to ask over there. They have many programs and stuff, just ask at your school.

http://www.afs.org/afs_or/home http://www.iseusa.com/student-info.htm Yahoo! search would yield more agencies. I don't know of any that actually *exchange* students.

You would need to contact an exchange student organization. They handle all of the "work" after that! They will find you a school, family, etc. THey also arrange your flights, insurance, orientations, etc. I know that the following operate in Spain as well as in the U.S. and are on the CSIET list (certified). AFS, Aspect Foundation, Rotary, YFU. They are all respected and reliable all over the U.S. You might also look at http://www.exchangestudentworld.com/ for ideas and info too. It's an on line community of exchange students. Buena Suerte!

What type of visa will I need to work and live in Spain?

What type of visa will I need to work and live in Spain?
I am an American student, recent graduate, wanting to travel to Spain with my fiance to live for 8 months. She will be working there on a Student Visa as part of her University course. I will also be seeking work to earn money so I know that I cannot be on a tourist visa. What type of visa I should aquire to make this possible? Would it make it easier if we were married? For Example, could I travel with her on her student visa as her spouse?

What you need to do is find out what type of card is accepted in Spain. If you look at the back of a credit card it has the brand of card (not Visa / MasterCard) I can't remember off hand what the different types are, maybe "cirrus" Call a major bank ie. wells fargo and ask them if they know. Or somewhere that has travel warnings / information. I have been to south America and I was able to use my credit card and debit card (through wells fargo) while I was there. Also make sure you call the company you have the credit cards through and tell them you are traveling out of the country or they will turn it off!! VERY important..

You should really contact the Embassy in Madrid for definitive detail on what Visa you will need

I lived in Spain on a student visa, and then looked into getting one after college to work. It is not easy. You have to have someone who will hire you to sponsor you, but finding someone to do that without having a visa is tricky. I am not sure about travelling on your girlfriend/potential wife's visa. You need to contact the Spanish consulate that covers the region where you live. You can find this information online fairly easily. I used the San Francisco consulate and it was VERY difficult to get ahold of them or to get straight answers. They are open limited hours, I think 8-1 or something like that. I also know that sometimes I had to speak Spanish, so if that is a barrier for you, you might need to find someone who can do the calling for you. Good luck, it is a lot of work, but being able to live in Spain is well worth it in my opinion!

How do I get my student visa approved if I want to go a month in advance?

How do I get my student visa approved if I want to go a month in advance?
I am trying to go to a spanish training program in Spain a month before my actual school starts. Will my student visa only work starting the day school starts or will they give me one ahead of time beginning when the spanish program starts? Will they even give me a student visa and let me go into the country before my university starts?

Will I be denied a Student Visa if I overstayed my tourist visa years ago?

Will I be denied a Student Visa if I overstayed my tourist visa years ago?
I lived and worked in Spain illegally for about a year. However, I traveled quite a bit and was constantly leaving and re-entering Spain, so I have several stamps in my passport and was never stopped at customs for overstaying my tourist visa. I am now applying for a student visa to return to study in Spain and I was just wondering if the visa will be denied because of my past travels? And if so, will my passport be "red flagged" disabling my return to the EU? Thanks for your input!

you wont know until you apply ..there records are not know

It is possible........but it is well known that Europeans for some reason look the other way [even when red flagged] in the SIS that they look the other way to American passports depending on how big the benefit will be to the local economy.A student certainly can give a country experiencing record unemployment a big reason to look that other way even if [red flagged] in the system negatively.
