Can I get a student Visa for Spain w/out making an appointment?

Can I get a student Visa for Spain w/out making an appointment?
I am trying to get a student visa for Spain and the consulate in my state does not issue visas, so I have to go to Miami. But the problem is that I can't go to Miami due to finances and school. People have told me that I can mail my passport and documents to the consulate. However, the consulate told me that I must make an appointment. Are there any services in Washington, D.C. where I can mail my passport and other documents to get a student visa?

After 911 do you really even have to ask this question? Of course there aren't. If there are the government may as well open up a pilots school for terrorists. I'm sorry to be so harsh but really think about it. I hope the powers that be are thinking better than this. And if the embassy told you that you'd HAVE to have an apt why are you here asking us to say no you don't? Sorry bad week. Love is the answer, Pandora

You must apply for the visa at the Spanish consulate general which covers the state you are residing in. You must make an appointment and either apply in person or by a legal representative. From a Spanish Consulate website: VISA APPLICATIONS CANNOT BE ACCEPTED BY MAIL, NOR RETURNED BY MAIL Student visas must be applied for in person or by a legal representative who presents his/her identification and a written notarized authorization from the applicant. The authorization must indicate the name and passport number of the applicant and the name and document number (e.g. driver’s license number or passport number) of the person dropping off the application. Study Abroad Program Directors and/or Coordinators may request authorization from this Consulate to act as legal representatives for their whole group of students. Priority will be given to those visa applications when submitted in a group by a program representative, provided the applications are presented more than one month prior to the departure date. STUDENT VISAS MUST ALWAYS BE PICKED UP IN PERSON BY THE APPLICANT.

I have been in Spain with a 6 month student visa but want to travel Europe after. Do I need a new visa?

I have been in Spain with a 6 month student visa but want to travel Europe after. Do I need a new visa?
I have been studying in Spain and my 6 months on my student visa runs up in mid-July however I was planning on traveling until the end of July. Since Spain is part of the Schengen agreement does that mean when my six months are up I have to leave Spain or all Schengen countries? Does the allowed 90 day period of travel within Schengen countries start when my student visa runs up?

You need an exit stamp on your passport which shows that you have left the Schengen zone latest on the expiration date of your visa. Hence you have to depart to a country outside of the Schengen agreement. http://dc.the-netherlands.org/Services/Consular_services/Visa/US_citizens/Traveling_to_the_Netherlands/Tourist_and_Business_Visa_for_the_Netherlands_Schengen/See_also/Map_of_Schengen_countries .. http://www.axa-schengen.com/en/schengen-countries .. There is no waiting time to re-enter the Schengen zone as tourist. The 90 days of stay within a six months period only applies for visa-free stay as tourist/visitor or for doing business. http://www.bfm.admin.ch/content/dam/data/migration/rechtsgrundlagen/weisungen_und_kreisschreiben/weisungen_visa/vhbI/visahandbuchI-e.pdf ..

It depends on what country you are from and the agreements your country has with the EU. In most cases, yes you can travel within the EU. Again--best to check first. There are places for online info. Search for the embassy website of your country and go to the travel/visa info page.

With a long-stay national visa (Type D) for Germany or a residence permit issued in Germany you can travel to all 24 other countries of the Schengen agreement to include Italy, France, and Spain. There are no governmental immigration controls on flights between Schengen countries. You just show your passport/visa/residence permit on check-in or security check, that's it. If I have a student visa in Spain for a year (and not a work visa), can I legally do free work experience?

If I have a student visa in Spain for a year (and not a work visa), can I legally do free work experience?
I am looking to hopefully get some international work experience when I study in Spain for a year next year. If I am only on a student visa, can I legally do free work experience in professional business organisations? Would I need to be completley fluent in Spanish? Would I be able to get by by speaking broken spanish, or do they speak in english in professional situations in Spain?

the term is called an internship.....and as long as you are obtaining college credit for your time----I would say yes. Without enrollment in an approved class that gives you work experience credit in an internship type setting---NO.

It is possible to work on a student visa in Spain, but since the main goal of your stay in Spain is to study, any work you do is very closely regulated. You can work part-time during the school term, or full-time during holidays under three months. However, this falls into two categories: internships (prácticas)and working under a special student work visa (called an Autorización Excepcional de Trabajo). Any internship(paid or unpaid) must be part of your university studies and will be supervised by your university. You also have to be under 30 years old and the internship can be for no more than one year. You don’t need to apply for special permission, as everything is already regulated by an agreement between the university and the employer. The other slightly more complicated way is to apply for a special student work visa (Autorización Excepcional de Trabajo). Once a company has undertaken to hire you, your future employer must apply for it on your behalf and you cannot work during the three months while it is being processed. Otherwise, if you have been lucky in finding a company willing to employ you and you want to apply for a regular work and residence visa while still in Spain, you must have studied legally in Spain for a minimum of three years and have earned passing grades or marks. Otherwise, you must return to your home country to have the visa processed as would any other normal work and residence visa.
