Is there any country in Europe where a US citizen can get a student visa for study in Spain?

Is there any country in Europe where a US citizen can get a student visa for study in Spain?
My daughter is studying in Europe and has decided she would like to study for 5 months at the University of Seville. It would be very expensive to fly home to get a visa so we are wondering if there is a country in Europe she could go to to get a student visa.

She can go to the US Consulate or Embassy where she presently is. They can provide all the details she will need to study in Spain

Hi CraigJ, I am assuming by your question that she is not a citizen of an EU country who is looking to exercises her freedom of movement under EU Directive 2004/38/EC. UK for example has a similar rule about returning to apply to your country of residence to apply for visas if you are not an EU citizen. Therefore, if she is not an EU citizen she will have to follow the immigration rules for Spain and only Spain can issue her a student visa for Spain. Should that mean she has to return home to apply for the visa then she will have to return.

Why do not ask for a solution to the University itself? If your doughter is compelled to exit Spain and not the EU Italy is the best choiche.

Any citizen of the EU can study anywhere in the EU... for free more or less. So, yes, they can.

No, you're an E.U Citizen you'll get most of the same aid as you would in your own country, and most of it you'll claim from there But it depends... do you speak Castellano or another regional language ?? what language will your course be in ?? If you speak Spanish... can you speak it high enough to use the terms related to your course ?? and if you're applying to a "Good" University... it might not be in English, of which classes will be a lot more limited -- it's not free... it's still the 5.000รข‚¬ limit for the Public universities, the limit imposed by the E.U but a lot cheaper than the 20.000$ for U.S people I'd suggest, you do a degree there, and take one year in the country of your choice (by choosing a language) - this is what I'm doing

Xabito's answer is the most sensible - come to Spain for a year as a foreign exchange student. If this appeals to you then I have attached a link to tell you how to go about this - http://www.tumbit.com/how-to-guides/articles/102-applying-for-a-student-exchange-program-in-spain.html

female student touring Spain alone?

female student touring Spain alone?
I am planning to tour Spain alone anywhere from 1-2 weeks sometime while I am studying abroad in Scotland. I'm an Asian female (but American student). Is this considered a safe thing to do? Should I expect anything during my trip there? I'll be in Barcelona. I'm also planning on staying in one of the hostels.

Barcelona is no different than any other large city. There will be "rough" parts. You have to be aware of things around you. As far as I am aware, there is not a large Asian presence but as your English is good your will not have many problems with communications. Do be aware of pickpockets and be on your guard. Have a good trip, Barcelona has something for everyone.
2 :
Yup. Totally safe! Have fun! Keep valuables close to your body, as you would anywhere...more so in Barcelona, and careful anywhere after dark. Have a blast! Travel beyond Barcelona!!!!!
3 :
there are 1 million Asians living peaceful lives in Spain. The crime rate is lower in Spain than other western countries. However, you have to be sensible about things when travelling alone, irrespective of where you go.
4 :
Yes it is very safe. Safer than Scotland even! Scots and Spanish have something in common. They do not care what race you are as long as you behave yourself and do not frighten the servants or the horses.

Why don't you just contact the schools in Spain that interest you and ask them? They will be in the best position to tell you what they and the Spanish government would require of you as an international student.
