How do you greet someone from Spain?

How do you greet someone from Spain?
My own family is from Nicaragua, and whenever we greet someone new, it's a kiss on the cheek. Is it the same in Spain? We're getting an exchange student, and usually when I meet new people if they're from America, I shake their hand, but if it's anyone Hispanic, I give them a kiss on the cheek. Is that okay with my exchange student? I don't want to make them feel uncomfortable. Sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm culturally oblivious.

exactly the same
2 :
just wait to see what they do.
3 :
Kissing him on the cheek at the first meeting might make him feel uncomfortable. Just shake his hand.
4 :
If its formal, its two kiss on the cheeks. One for each cheek. However, a simple handshake or hug will be enough.
5 :
Are you communicating with them now by email or messaging? Tell them you are trying to learn about their culture. Ask a few questions including how they great new people. This way you will know what they prefer.

Just buy a few weeks in advance and leave and come back during the middle of the week. Flights leaving and /or coming back on Thurs. thru Monday are at least 25% more because people want to travel more on those days.
2 :
try to make travel arrangements bti/w tuesday - friday the best time is as soon as you can airlines work on a srategy, that is they sell limited no of seats at a particular price, and when those seats are sold out the price goes up. as far as low fare is considered, they have certain rstrictions too which could be like paying a chng fee for making changes, or non refundable status of tickets

Easter is towards the end of March this year. Flights will probably be expensive at that time of the year. Mid week flights are usually the cheapest. You don´t say which country you are flying from. There can be huge savings depending on where you live and which carrier you fly with. Furthermore, you don´t say where in Spain you are flying to. Flying to a regional airport may be cheaper than flying to a hub or larger airport. Edit; They´ve just started flights direct non stop from New York to Málaga if it helps in anyway.
4 :
Try to avoid taking a trip when it is holiday time here in the US. This is when most people travel and when prices are the highest. So if you can avoid the Easter break and go before the summer you should save some money. Speak to a travel agent about consolidator fares. These are usually the cheapest rates.

on the other hand, even though it's more expensive, it's also prime time to visit Spain (Easter time) because of the Semana Santa celebrations in Andalucia. That means it's going to be more crowded, difficult to see many monuments, and more expensive, but also a most interesting event to take part in. (just some food for thought). Where is your friend studying?

How easy and cheap is it to live in a hostel in Spain?

How easy and cheap is it to live in a hostel in Spain?

Cheap, it depends if you want to sleep in a dormitory with other 10 pple or if you want to have your own room. prices might be around 30 euros for an individual room to 15 for a bed in a dormitory. It also depends on the hostel. about easy: you just have too google hostel barcelona, or alberg barcelona or albergue barcelona and you'll find several youth hostels. Check the websites, locations and prices, etc and book the one you like the most. here you have one that seem quite nice but also expensive http://www.peretarres.org/alberg/
2 :
Most hostels have a maximum of 7 days that you can stay there. The best option for finding accomodation is to look on this website for a room in a share house (the prices are monthly unless stated otherwise) : http://www.loquo.com/en_us Stay in a hostel when you first arrive then you can look for somewhere cheaper. It will be much cheaper to find share accomodation than to pay for a hostel. Also when you walk around the streets you will see lots of ads stuck everywhere offering accomodation.

Does anyone know of a good summer program for high school students in Spain?

Does anyone know of a good summer program for high school students in Spain?
I am looking for a program where I can study spanish but also take other classes besides just spanish. I am looking for one in Madrid or Barcelona that allows you freedoms such as being able to explore the city with just your friends, especially at night. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here's a good one, but unless things have changed vastly, it simply offers Spanish language. http://www.academicintl.com/spain/barcelona/summer_int_lang.html However, you will want to enjoy the many cultural facilities of the city together with the numerous friends you will make!

Try EfTours. They have lots of experience worlwide. THis summer my class is actually taking a trip to Spain. We will be going through Sevilla, Barcelona, and Madrid in a bout two weeks. There are guided tours, free days and there is a package which included events, like bull fights and such. If you want to explore the city, you have free nights ( no curfew i believe).
