How should I dress in Spain, in Madrid?

How should I dress in Spain, in Madrid?
I am going to spain as a foreign exchange student at the end of june, but I don't know what I would wear. Are the styles the same as in America?

They're essentially the same, but Europeans as a rule wear more basic pieces and focus more on what looks good on them, rather than wearing what's trendy. Americans also wear a lot more bright colors. So if you want to blend in, neutral colors in classic shapes are the way to go.

kind of, you cant go wrong with a pair of skinny jeans, colorful nikes and a retro shirt. it seems like teens here almost dress like theyre in the 80' lol but as long as you dont dress like a tourist, and like an actual teenager youll be fine also, remy couldnt be more wrong lmao thats more of like a old person thing

dress as you would normally dress. bring a bit of america to spain! but remember its gonna be hot hot hot so always remember to take stuff where you wont get too hot and take lots of suncream but still take a few coats/hoodies/jackets because it will soetimes get cold at night (: sunglasses merry christmas (: x

I studied in Spain recently and went to Madrid... Some older (like 30+) Spaniards wear chunky jewelry and have decent style, but some of them just wear the weirdest stuff. My teacher in Spain had okay style - she wore dark pants, some kind of blouse and a different scarf every day. But the younger girls tend to wear flashier clothes. Some Spaniards shop at stores like Zara and H&M, but they're way different (and wayyy better) there than they are in America. I was worried that my host sister would have amazing style but her style was actually heinous. Wear your own thing, but like someone else said, try not to stand out - because for one things, pickpockets can spot tourists a mile away, (and if you're speaking English too that doesn't help) so maybe bring basics, and you'll for sure want to buy more stuff when you're there.

1- Luckily in the Spanish cities (Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia ..) you can wear whatever you want that nobody pointed out, there are many urban groups, Gothic, rappers, vintage, retro and more .. 2- If you want to see how most young people wear, these are the brands we use (Spanish) Zara http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/category/es/es/zara-sales/16502/ Pull and bear http://www.pullbear.com/#/photos/ Mango http://www.google.es/images?um=1&hl=es&tbs=isch:1&q=mango+ropa&revid=1240027078&sa=X&ei=tPEJTZv8DISE5Aaf2eTsDw&ved=0CDEQ1QIoAA&biw=1280&bih=923 Stradivarius Blanco .............
