Movie about a french college student that studies abroad in Spain?
So he's French and he studies abroad in Spain. Lives in a house with other foreign students, like a red head from the UK and an american and others. That's kinda all i got. lol I remember watching it on IFC a long time ago. Any ideas?

How to find a free host family in Spain for a non-student?
I have thought about Spain for a long time and want to get serious about getting there. I know all about couch surfing and travel companion matches but all I'm looking to do is live for a little while (eg a few months) with a family, help them out on their farm or in their house hold in exchange for a room and meals. Help? Oh, and what papers I would need to apply for to enter and live in Spain, though not permanently.

There are Au Pair agencies. EF and CIEE both arrange those situations. Otherwise, I know of no one who will put you up for free...Your suggestions might work out, but I don't know of any agencies that arrange such a situation. Be careful...there are a lot of "agencies" that are scams out there...make sure you have a reputable one. (the above are both reputable and qualified). If you arrange something privately, you run the risk of finding yourself in a situation that could get very dangerous...such things only happen occasionally, but still..you don't want to be the one...

If you're a US citizen you will find this very difficult, if not impossible, to do. Firstly, with an American passport you can only stay in Spain (and the Schengen Zone) for 90 days out of every 180 days as a tourist and you cannot work. Long-stay visas are available, but again you cannot work and will need to prove that you can support yourself financially without working. Unemployment in Spain, and the EU, is very high at the moment, and there are many people who might be happy to take this type of work. Spanish and EU citizens will get preference over anyone from outside the EU.

This is how it works: when you have a work offer, you apply for a work permit including the contract the employer is offering yo . It's not that you get your work permit and then start looking for a job ,but the opposite. If you work for food and shelter, that's simply illegal. If you work, you get paid, pay taxes and have to be included in the Social Security (so that you have right to health care and those taxes you pay will be used for calculation for your retirement pension). For that kind of job you won't get a work permit at all, since to give a job to a foreigner, there has to be residents here that can't/won't take that job. And since that's not qualified job, with the current unemployment rate it's quite impossible that an employee is willing to go through all that redtape nightmare to hire you. If you want to do that kind of work illegally, I doubt anyone will really dare doing something so risky and illegal for a perfect stranger (it might work with a friend, but a stranger? I doubt it). With a tourists visa you're not allowed to stay here more than 3 months. If you stay longer, you may be deported if the authorities find out you're here without a residence permit. We have lots of illegal immigrants, you may not be deported at all, but the risk is always there. You could try finding some work as au pair, as it has been mentioned. That's the closest to slavery that's legal (working for food and shelter plus an indecently low amount of pocket money) in this country. I don't mean to be harsh, it's only that things are really tough here now.

Should I be a foreign exchange student in Spain or Argentina?
I am trying to decide which and it's a really tough decision. What do you think?

I personally recommend Buenos Aires, Argentina. It's a great city with its own unique flavor and culture. There are lots of museums, art galleries, concerts and beautiful architecture and history, if that is your thing. You can go to a tango show, a soccer game, skydiving or just walk along the beautiful Rio de la Plata. It is only a short local flight away from some of the most incredible natural wonders of the world, including Tierra del Fuego and the Iguazu waterfalls. Also, BA boasts the best nightlife in Latin America (and the world?) with bars and clubs that don't shut down until well past the sun comes up. I've traveled around most of South America and Europe, and BA is still my favorite place to go. There is a reason why some many people who come here to visit end up staying for some much longer! My program department and I had a misunderstanding about the "new" VISA regulation, so it may be too late to apply for a student VISA to Spain by now (as I only have less than 1.5 month before departure to Spain). I know that I can travel as a tourist for up to 90 days being a US citizen. My question is whether I am able to still do a "year-long study aboard program" in Spain without having a Student VISA by leaving the country (Spain) at the expiration of the 90 days allowed for tourist and travel to a different country, say France, and stay there for a day or two and come back to Spain? Will this allow me to stay in Spain for an additional 90 days? Does it work this way or does it not? Anything is much appreciate! Cruel honesty is welcome as long as it is constructive and sincere! Gracias!

What you suggest...exiting the country and returning a few days later....Yes, it has been done, but it is not really legal. Even though it is a bit late call the spanish Embassy and try to sort it out...they may give you the visa in less time then you think. University classes in Spain usually start at the beginning of october, so you may have 2 full months to get your visa... Your study abroad program is presumably for nine months or is it for a full 12 months?? What University are you supposed to attend?.. They might be able to give you advice also... (By the way...how is your spanish?) Depending on which University you will be attending I might be able to assist you a bit more from here, I live in AndalucÃa contact me if you like via e-mail.

I have a Colombian passport, but I am a legal resident of the United States. I currently have a student Visa for France. Can I travel to other Schengen countries (In this case Spain) without a tourist Visa?

There are no border controls in the Schengen countries. Once you are inside one, like France, you can freely travel around in the others. I had a student visa for Holland and was able to travel to France and Belgium without any additional visa. Even if you dodn't have a visa nobody will stop you because as I say there are no border controls.

You probably have a category D visa valid for France. Such a visa would allow you to visit other Schengen states for up to 90 days. A category C visa will also allow you to visit other Schengen states provided it is marked “Valable pour états Schengenâ€. The category and validity of your visa should be printed on the visa sticker. Very likely you are allowed to go to Spain, but do not guess. Normally there are no border controls between Schengen states, but if you do get caught in Spain without the correct visa, your visa to France can be revoked.

Can I arrive in Spain before the dates of my student visa?
I would like to arrive in Spain about 6 days before the start of my visa in order to figure out my apartment and living situation. Can I legally do this? If not, can I arrive in Spain as a tourist, leave the country for a few days, and then arrive on my student visa afterwards? I have two US passports (yes, this is legal. I just travel a lot), but I don't know if there is a certain amount of time that must pass before I can return to the country.

Your passport should be stamped with the visa. Call the people you bought your visa from and see what they have to say, this will not be the first time they have been asked this question. It is always best to talk the visa people direct rather than taking advice from a third party.
